St. John Vianney High School is a private, all-boys, Catholic college preparatory school, located in Kirkwood, Missouri, serving grades 9 through 12. 2020 marks the school’s 60th anniversary, dedicated to our mission of forming young men for spiritual, academic and personal excellence in the Catholic, Marianist tradition.
Position Summary:
The School Nurse fully supports the mission of St. John Vianney High School by providing health care services to students, faculty and staff in a proactive, caring and compassionate manner, reflecting our Marianist principles and school culture.
Position Requirements:
- Registered by the state of Missouri to practice nursing
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or RN highly preferred
- Minimum three years’ experience with background as pediatric or school nurse preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and capable of learning additional software applications as required
- Ability to read and analyze medical-related correspondence and communicate appropriate responses
- CPR certification
- Possesses a high level of organization and attention to detail
- Enthusiastic, friendly, relationship-oriented professional who excels independently and as part of a team
- Maintains discretion and confidentiality regarding student, faculty and staff health-related information
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Ability to lift 20 lbs.
- Understanding of Catholic philosophy and principles
Position Responsibilities:
Preventive Care:
- Provide health awareness/prevention efforts throughout the campus
- Conduct CPR and first-aid training for faculty and staff
- Ensure student immunization and annual physicals are updated and logged in the appropriate system.
- Communicate as needed with administrators, faculty, staff, and parents promoting health and well-being
- Create and implement health and safety protocols and procedures for staff and students
Acute and Follow-up Care:
- Provide direct nursing care for sick or injured students, faculty and staff as well as referral to emergency services, urgent care, physicians, or other healthcare professionals
- Comply with physician’s orders for student care
Medication Administration:
- Securely store and distribute prescription and non-prescription medications to students per doctor’s instructions
- Communicate with parents about student health issues such as updates to medical conditions and medication refills
- Keep faculty and staff informed of student health issues (e.g., allergies, injuries, illnesses, etc.) as appropriate
- Order, clean, maintain and store medical equipment and supplies
Administrative Duties:
- Collect and maintain student health and medication records as required
- Conduct wellness and health educational sessions for students, parents, faculty and staff as required
- Serve as the primary contact for infectious disease protocol and school liaison for state and local health authorities
- Implement federal, state, and local health regulations
- Attend required school functions and events as deemed necessary
